If you are insecure about the look or shape of your nose, you might be a candidate for nose reshaping. A nose that is too large or out of proportion with other facial features can detract from the overall look of a person's face and cause low self-esteem issues.
Surgery can also be performed to correct a nose which has been broken. Because of the location of the nose, it is very hard to conceal any dissatisfactions you might have from other people. Fortunately, rhinoplasty is a very easy way to correct this facial feature.
Nose reshaping surgery can be used to:
- Reduce the bridge of the nose
- Reduce the size of flared nostrils
- Straighten a crooked nose
- Change the tip of the nose
- Alter the angle of the nose in relation to other features such as the lips or forehead
Patients who are interested in rhinoplasty surgery will have a rhinoplasty consultation with Dr Lim at our rooms. You are a good candidate for nose reshaping if you have any of the following:
- A nose that you feel is too large or small in comparison with your other facial features
- A bulbous nose
- Nostrils that are excessively flared or too small
- A nose that is crooked
- A bump on the bridge of the nose
- A wide nose
- A nasal tip that droops
- Have problems breathing due to the internal nose structure
How is rhinoplasty performed?
Rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed internally, this means that you will not notice and scarring on the outside of your nose. Depending on the type of rhinoplasty you are undergoing, the actual surgery may involve removing a portion of the nasal bone, cartilage or soft tissue. Reduction of nostrils is done through tiny incisions at the base of each nostril. The nose is remodelled by Dr Lim, then splints and dressings are applied to the outside of the nose. You may experience some bruising and swelling in this area. Dressings will be removed in our office after one week, although the final result will not be evident at this time. Bruising and swelling can sometimes take a few weeks to subside.
What are the potential risks?
Rhinoplasty is a very common surgical procedure. Like all surgery, there is always a potential risk that something could go wrong. The potential risks will be discussed with you during your rhinoplasty consultation with Dr Lim. We will give you instructions on what to do before and after your surgery to minimise swelling and to promote healing.
